The Emirates FA Cup, or the Football Association Challenge Cup, is the oldest football tournament in the world. The 140th edition of the league will be played in a month’s time, starting in January 2021.

The tournament has a particularly high following across the African continent. The 2019/2020 edition of the cup was watched by 4 million households across the African regions where measurement is possible. The lion’s share of viewership belonged to Nigeria as the country attracted a total of 5.8 million eyeballs last year. Kenya, with 1.3 million viewers, has the second largest share of audiences. Zambia and Tanzania both contribute almost a million viewers to the game. The latter also witnessed the largest growth in audiences, recording a massive 61% YoY increase.

DSTV and its dedicated sports channel SuperSport are on the forefront of bringing major football leagues to key African countries. The satellite television broadcaster holds broadcast rights for the Emirates FA Cup, offering a multitude of opportunities for brands that wish to leverage the sports’ popularity in Arica.
