Indian Print Defying Global Trends
July 22, 2017
India is one of the few countries where print advertising revenue is growing in spite of global decline in print consumption. India has seen a year on year positive trend in relation to the rest of the world, whilst revenue from print advertising has seen a boom. The number of paid-for titles in India is the highest in the world. All this can be attributed to the growth in literacy and education along with the rapid urbanization and economic boom.
According to the Bureau of Circulations it is believed that the growth of newspapers in India is directly related to urbanization leading to higher aspirations and heightened interest in buying assets. In addition to the ease in access as newspapers are delivered at home in India, unlike in the West.
Newspapers are competitively priced and have been a part of the daily routine of many generations. The written word is believed to be the most reliable source of information in India. Newspapers are catering to the local population with more coverage on micro factors that directly affect the readers, which has helped give rise to the regional circulation.
